Honeycomb Shade Improvements

In order to reduce the number of pull cords and break-away stop balls on top-down and top-down/bottom-up shades, Superior View Products is reducing the maximum widths of honeycomb and Prominence shades to 60” maximum width on top-down shades and 72” maximum width on top-down/bottom-up and two-fabric combination shades. Shades up to these widths will only feature one pull cord and break-away stop ball per cordlock.

As we age, some of us may suffer from arthritis and other age related conditions. At SVP, we believe that opening and closing blinds shouldn’t be difficult for anyone of any age. For your convenience our team has created a list of window treatments that are easy to manage and maintain, lightweight and still look great.
• For bay windows or oversized windows, using a series of window treatments side by side instead of one large blind will eliminate difficulty in raising and lowering the blinds. A valance measuring the entire length of the window will work to unify the look and create the feeling of a single window treatment. This also provides ease of light control and privacy control.
• For lightweight window treatments, seniors should consider cellular shades, soft sheer shades, roller or solar shades as well as roman shades. Window treatments such as wood and faux wood blinds have a lot of weight to them and can be hard to maneuver.
• For those suffering from arthritis, avoid thin cords and opt for cordless window treatments. Cordless blinds come in a variety of styles, patterns and colors and include honeycomb cellular shades, roman shades, pleated shades and aluminum mini blinds.
• Motorized blinds and shades. A remote control operates the opening and closing of select roman shades, roller shades, solar screen shades and collegiate shades, for simple control over glare and privacy.

Child Safety – The Role of Cordless Shades

As parents we want to make sure that our child’s safety comes first. In the past couple of years the CPSC (Consumer Protection Safety Commission) has increased its efforts to reduce the number of deaths each year attributed to strangulation from cording on shades and corded blinds. The Shades and Blinds most affected by the recent recalls are mostly foreign made coming primarily out of China. Of the millions of shades that have been recalled most are ready made shades that are carried by the largest retailers such as Home Depot™, Lowes™, Walmart™, Target™, Pier One™, and Bed Bath and Beyond™.
At Superior View, we require all of our manufactures to provide proof that all of our products are child safe and CPSC approved. The single greatest danger from these shades and blinds is the cording on the back side of the shades and blinds which can be pulled out away from the shade allowing the child to stick their head through and wrap it around their neck.
A great option for families with children would be our cordless cellular shade, also known as a Honeycomb shade which removes any chance of a child or person getting harmed by cords. These shades are not only child and pet friendly, but they also look great! Gone are the days when cords are dangling or getting caught up on things.
There are also numerous shades (honeycomb, cellular, silhouette, and sheer) and fabrics available in these. All of these shade fabrics are available in Light Filtering and Black out fabrics. Light Filtering fabrics are a great choice for diffusing light and adding privacy in all areas of the home. Even a dual shade such as day/night can be more effective than any other shade.
